At 8PM, we pay a visit to New York City, where a wealthy and stylish couple stalk the night, in pursuit of their next meal. In this artsy 80’s flick centering around a vampire and her collection of lovers, an unexpected twist on the familiar lore of the undead unravels to unveil a tragic fate. This hypnotic gem examines eternity and the existential relationship with aging, in addition to addressing repression and attachment, all while being rife with eroticism and decadent visuals. Starring Susan Sarandon (RHPS, 1975), Catherine Deneuve (Repulsion, 1965) and the legendary David Bowie in a trysting love triangle, this picture cements itself as a significant remnant of gothic culture, spotlighting the quintessential band Bauhaus. The blood is life, with the ankh a physical manifestation of their everlasting life- succumb to THE HUNGER (1983), if you dare.![]()

Then, at 10PM, we find ourselves in the suburbs of Sweden, joining a boy named Oskar in his search for companionship when he is met by a mysterious stranger who traverses the snow laden black of night, staining the white blanketed landscape red in their wake. In this unorthodox, seemingly innocent romance between two children, a grisly secret lurks beneath the surface. Delving deep into the trenches of loneliness and dissecting a transgender allegory and its implications for the lovers, the narrative remains ripe with symbolism on both a micro and macro level, including a Jungian display of anima and animus at work. Adapted from the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and directed by Tomas Alfredson, will you LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008)? ![]()
